Mary Ellen Gallagher, MD, is an internal medicine physician at Northern Virginia Internal Medicine and Pediatrics in Arlington, Virginia.
Dr. Gallagher grew up in Arlington, VA. Dr. Gallagher graduated from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville in 1984 with a Bachelor of Arts in history and economics and a minor in Russian history. After graduating, she worked in the private sector and pursued her Master of Business Administration but decided that medicine was her true calling. She then went to medical school at St. George's University of Medicine in Grenada. After graduating in 1993, she started her residency at Albany Medical Center in 1999. Her residency was in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics which is dual training in both specialties.
With four kids in less than five years, she completed her residency in 2003. Dr. Gallagher then started working toward her own practice, working at another office until she established her Arlington practice in 2004. She was blessed with her fifth child shortly after. She's been here ever since and is thankful for all that the Arlington community has provided for her family.
Dr. Gallagher is also a proud preceptor for many nursing and medical students.
Outside of work, Dr. Gallagher is always on the look-out for new true crime podcasts. She also enjoys going over to her patients’ homes for dinner.
